A Message from Cristina

I believe souls don't need words or reason to feel one another, but they join through and for love. Love for the other which enlightens our hearts with faith, hope and strength...

My name is Cristina, I am 24 years old and since 2006 I have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Leukemia or cancer of blood, how it is known, is a severe disease that attacks healthy cells and the body becomes unable to defend itself from infections, internal bleedings or organs' failure. My story begins on an ordinary day of March 2006, when a grey-haired nurse immediately took me in a big room with old and rusty beds, covered with turned yellow bed sheets. At that time I was in the third year at Social Work University.

The disease was in an advanced stage and intensive chemotherapy treatment was imperative. Each session was followed by severe infections and high fever. But God's love and mercy have repaired my wings once I felt broken, in January 2007 I have finished the treatment, the disease was defeated, or so we thought.

In the same year I managed to get my social work degree magna cum laudae. I could finally follow my dream, to work with needy people and try to bring confort and wellbeing to the less fortunate. And I have been blessed, for one year I worked in a charity with very poor children and had the great satisfaction that our efforts and enthusiasm could bring on the faces of those children laughter and joy.

Unexpectedly in February 2009, the last routine investigation showed that leukemia has relapsed. I have started chemotherapy at once, but unfortunately with no positive result. On the contrary, the disease has become more aggressive.

After contacting a Belgian doctor who I met in 2006, he strongly recommended me to go in Belgium for a special treatment that cannot be done in Romania.

After this treatment the next step is a stem cell transplant, having my mother as a donor. The whole procedure is estimated to last up to 6 months. The stem cell transplant is my chance to cure.

The costs raise approximately from 80.000 to 100.000 euros. An exact sum cannot be made because there are many factors that can influence the costs, such as the exact length of stay, used medication, rehabilitation period.

The clinic is in Belgium, in a city called Brugge.

At the moment I have raised 23.500 euros.

Now I humble ask from you a helping hand in my struggle of rebuilding a healthy and peaceful life.

May the grace of Jesus Christ and God's love be with you all!

With love and gratitude, Cristina

We have raised:

47.493 EUR

Thank you!

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
